NJ Logistical Solutions for Your Business

July 1st, 2009 by admin

I run a mid-sized frim that manufactures toys for sale to drug stores, dollar stores, and more value-oriented toy stores. Like most manufacturers these days, we have chosen to locate most of our production overseas in places like China or Mexico – where labor is cheap and competent – but our biggest market is obviously in the United States, and specifically along the east coast. That’s in no small part because of some of the help with my logistics that I obtained from Transport Systems Incorporated.

Initially, I recruited their help because I thought I was paying too much for my warehouse in NJ, where I was storing most of my inventory to fulfill orders from distribution centers and stores from Virginia to Boston. It turned out that I was paying too much, but also because I hadn’t really really thoroughly shopped freight trucking companies – cost-plus contracts offer peace of mind, but I never really thought to get into the understanding of my truckers’ costs. After analyzing the true cost of my warehouse and comparing it to others in the area, TSI helped me to implement a completely new inventory and logistics management systems that they continue to help me manage.

Because most of my imports come through Port Elizabeth and Newark, it made sense to keep a strong inventory presence at a warehouse in NJ, where prices per cubic foot are reasonable, the interstates are accessible, and the regional distribution centers for many of the chains I sell to are nearby. But what TSI also showed me is that I could save on logistics overall with smarter management of inventory and decentralization of inventory: a new Chicago warehouse opened up new markets and made the Midwest a highly lucrative market for the first time.

What’s more, of all the freight trucking companies I’ve dealt with, TSI offered some of the fastest and most reliable trucking to get my inventory moving where it needed to go. Many of the chains I sell to do a poor job of managing their own assets and inventory, so it can be hard for my company to keep track of their stock levels for replenishment. When inventories do get low or do go out of stock, we lose days of sales opportunities. Thanks to same-day and overnight shipping service, retail store delivery, and LTL options – along with flexible warehousing that doesn’t entail a minimum more than   a couple of pallets – I am able to ensure that my customers are always well-supplied and that I don’t lose any sales days due to their poor inventory management.

Any business who relies on logistics to keep their products selling should certainly look into employing Transport Systems; they’re more than a freight trucking company, they are a full service logistics company that will have your business running more efficiently and more profitably.

Tech Behind Business VoIP Providers

June 18th, 2009 by admin

You’ve heard about the technological advantages as well as long distance savings that’s possible through VoIP phone systems, but you should be aware that all business VoIP providers are far from equal. Voice quality is far from universal, as some provider’s service sounds cloudy and crackly, the kind of reception you’d expect from a cell phone. You should also consider the service capabilities they are offering, as some companies promise more technological features than others.

Start with the quality of voice service, as no small business VoIP system is worth the savings it promises if it isn’t crystal clear. Your callers are your customers; they judge you with every phone call. Too much static, and they’ll be calling your competitors.

VoIP technology has become sophisticated enough that the call should be crystal clear, even if you’re calling the other side of the world. The quality and reliability now surpasses traditional phone systems in business VoIP providers who keep up with the technology. Technology that’s truly advanced delivers crystal clear quality that’s reliable every time.

Either you use a VoIP provider or you invest in the VoIP infrastructure yourself. While both deliver quality service, equipment and management of the service can be considerably expensive. Aside from the equipment and storage, hosting your own service also requires two full-time tech specialists to manage and mitigate system problems.

A small business VoIP system is most affordable through another provider who can supply the infrastructure and tech backup to manage the system. While they completely cover the maintenance and equipment for the system, the customization of the system is up to you. You can control and manipulate your phone system from any computer. Reroute a call to a cell phone, change a greeting, add phone lines or even move the entire system, right there from your computer as conveniently as checking the weather on Google.

Also consider the software and phone packages offered by the system. A company that has truly stayed on top of the technology will offer the latest capabilities so you get the most out of your phone service. The cheapest service is not always the best, as some companies will try to save money by having less staff for tech support or an overloaded system that presents frequent problems.

Invest in a VoIP phone service that delivers. Digital technology should always deliver the latest capabilities, keeping you competitive through technology that continually advances.

Tips to Avoid an Sales Tax Audit

April 13th, 2009 by admin

An income tax audit, sales tax audit can be one of your most scariest tax moments. The worse cases can end in a jail cell. Even if you haven’t done anything wrong, there are always possible mistakes that could have been made in the preparation of your last filing. The IRS will go through your records with a fine-toothed comb. If there are discrepancies, they’ll find them. Their job is to review every number.

One of the most important things you can do when facing an income tax audit, sales tax audit is to communicate with a tax lawyer before ever speaking to the IRS. Before you provide the government any tax documents or even have a conversation, speak to a qualified tax lawyer to first consider your options. Most tax audits and criminal investigations by the IRS never go anywhere unless the wrong thing is said. A tax lawyer knows the language of the IRS and will work to protect you.

It’s also very important to consult a tax lawyer as oppose to a tax company. Any communications to a tax company are subject to review by the IRS or a tax court. Conversations that take place between a lawyer and his or her client, however, enjoy the right of attorney-client privilege and retain the right of privacy.

The easiest way to avoid problems with the IRS is to not attract attention that encourages an audit. When filing your tax return, always make sure it looks neat and professional. This avoids raising the eyebrows of the IRS and attracting attention to your return. Make sure the math is correct, and avoid clean numbers like $500 or $200 to qualify expenses. This suggests you might be merely estimating or guessing, which could encourage the IRS to further investigate with an audit.

Also, don’t file early, or at least no earlier than a week The IRS has three years to decide to audit your return. Filing early not only gives them more time; it potentially gives them something to do during the less busy part of the year before April 15. When you file closer to the date, your return is combined with a sea of other returns. In fact, when returns are filed close to the deadline, less than 1 percent ever sees an audit.

Avoid an audit with a neat return filed close to deadline. If an audit becomes a potential reality, however, speak to a qualified tax attorney as soon as possible.

Make Quality Control Easier

April 13th, 2009 by admin

As engineers, our design ideas live and die by their ease of production and time to market. Faster production with lower probabilities of defects give manufacturing firms huge advantages over competitors. While having the best engineers for design and quality inspection is an obvious enough recommendation for firms looking to excel, providing them with tools to design more quickly and accurately and to QA products with laser precision practically eliminates the possibility for manmade error in the production process – because if there is one thing we know as engineers, it is that machines are generally better at the jobs that we do.

From the perspective of design, employing technology to facilitate reverse engineering vastly reduces the time between design and manufacturing. Because it is far easier to design without being beholden to specifications, being able to build a widget prototype without abiding to any technical restrictions is invaluable to companies looking to get products through the design phase and to market much faster. Engineers can simply build the part they need, have it scanned, and tweak the specs in a 3d environment before creating a final prototype to make sure the design works.

After a part or product is proven to work, production begins. In cases where precision is paramount, or where human hands are assembling, welding, molding, measuring, etc, inspection is an absolute necessity, but human eyes are often too imprecise or even too slow to check intricate, complex, or small parts for flaws, and manual measurement is always too slow. By engaging in contract inspection services, manufacturers can have their products QA’d by state-of-the-art 3d scanning machinery that will ensure that all parts are built to specification or within some small margin of error (where it is allowable). The same provider of these services might also offer consultation on how to improve accuracy in production to save on the expense of defective finished goods.

By employing machinery to do two core functions of engineering and manufacturing – design and inspection – firms can have greater confidence in their abilities to be competitive. The reverse engineering that is made possible by 3d scanning guarantees conformity of a design to a prototype while contract inspection services ensure that no mistakes are too small to miss and that customers get widgets that are built to spec and that will function as well as they were engineered to.

Real Estate on the Come Back

January 8th, 2009 by admin

When people think of California weather they usually think of sunny skies and warm weather on one of their beautiful beaches.  At least that’s the way California has been portrayed in the movies for pretty much as long as movies have been made. This perspective of California has brought millions of people to the state over the years and has helped the real estate market in California stay strong and vibrant.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that California is a very large state bigger and more diverse in its geography then a lot of countries. There a number of beaches but there are also mountains and deserts as well, so it might be surprising to some that not all of California has warm weather all year round and there are plenty of places that will give you a very large California heating bill that you wouldn’t expect to have if you believe in the stereotypes of California. So if you do decide to move here you better make sure you find a good electrician in case you have any problems with your heater system.

The recent housing crises has been difficult on real estate around the country and it has been especially difficult on the cites of the Golden State. Many have seen their home prices drop significantly over the past year with little relief in sight. There are some signs of it letting up and people are starting to see the housing and real estate markets in cities like Los Angeles heating up and starting to rebound. The real estate market is pretty much guaranteed to make a rebound eventually seeing how this is such a great place to live. Now might be the best time to buy or invest in real estate hear while the prices are down and things are prices at an exceptional value.
